“Real” winter tires in 395/85 R 20

A few weeks ago gave us Daniel Haas from PureXploring the tip that there has been a “real” winter tire in size 395/85 R 20 for some time now under the “NordicTire Snow Cross” brand. By “real” we mean a profile with prominent sipes and a soft rubber compound. We immediately contacted the manufacturer Camille Scherrer (see contact details below).

Camille answered all of our questions about the product patiently and in detail. The tire is retreaded using the “hot process”. The new profile (no tread) is “baked” in a mold onto young, roughened carcasses – see also the following external information. We provide Camille's current tire brochure here.

All the data and information provided by Camille seemed very convincing, so we decided to purchase it. Camille then delivered four tires to our workshop in a very short time Motordome in Troisdorf Spich delivered, where they were then mounted on our existing 20-inch snap ring rims.

We have driven the tires several hundred kilometers since installation, still in non-winter conditions, mainly on highways. The tires run very smoothly/quietly and there are no vibrations. Compared to ours 385/65R22.5 all-season tires the fuel consumption is increased by approximately 15%, which in our opinion is within the normal/expected range. We are now looking forward to our experiences with the tires under winter conditions with snow and ice and will then report back.
