As previously described, we have Starlink standard kit antenna permanently installed on the roof of our mobile home. Now the Starlink router supplied with the antenna can only be operated on 230V AC. Furthermore, we have already installed well-functioning network components in the cabin and do not need an additional router. Inspired by suitable information on the web, we have therefore put together our own electronics for controlling and powering the antenna.
In principle, it would not be a problem to install the Starlink router in the living cabin and to supply it with 230V AC via the inverter. However, we try to avoid dependencies on the 230V AC system, since the operation of the inverter (in our case a Victron MultiPlus 5000) is always associated with its own power consumption - here between 25W and 35W.
In doing so, we have based ourselves on what we believe to be a very good one Description by Noah Clarke on February 27th this year. We were able to obtain all the components described there without any problems in Germany via Starlink (Ethernet adapter) and Amazon (all other components). Since 24V DC is standard in our cabin, we used the corresponding 24V DC -> 48V DC model instead of the 12V DC -> 48V DC converter.
What is also nice about Noah's approach is that the Starlink antenna cable does not have to be modified and the original Starlink router can therefore be reconnected if the situation should require it.
We then first reproduced the structure of Noah as a prototype (see figure). After the Starlink antenna could be operated successfully for a few days, we decided to permanently install the electronic components in the cabin.
The company Bliss Mobil BV, the manufacturer of our mobile home, kindly and, as always, very professionally supported us with the installation.
We have been testing the configuration of our own electronics with a permanently installed antenna for about a week now and are very satisfied. Everything works as hoped. The system will then probably be on show at this year's trade fair Adventure four-wheel drive in Bad Kissingen on the status of Bliss Mobil B.V
