Please also update this Starlink – Fixed installation of the standard antenna (Part 2) observe
The Starlink “Travel” service (in English: “Roam”, previously called “Motorhome” or “RV”) is a well-rounded service for us. For EUR 100 per month you can have unlimited data traffic on the Internet at any location (with an active Starlink service) on a best effort basis (i.e. without guaranteed data throughput). You can also deactivate the service every calendar month (and thus save costs) if you don't need it. At first we repeatedly assembled and dismantled the Starlink antenna manually, which we found very inconvenient. We also didn't have a good cable feedthrough from the antenna outside to the router inside the living cabin. We have now been able to improve this by installing the antenna horizontally on the roof of our living cabin.
For horizontal fixed installation Starlink standard antenna we chose that “Star Mount Low Profile for Starlink Dishy” decided. In order for the antenna to fit into this Star Mount, it must be modified (description here) – the back of the housing with the mechanical drive is cut off and removed. It can be assumed that this modification will void all warranty claims. We have not modified or shortened the long Starlink antenna cable.
After successful installation, we are now testing the performance of the system. The now much more convenient handling is already having a positive effect - after switching on, you are online after about a minute.
The measurement results for data throughput vary from measurement to measurement, usually around 100 Mbps for download and around 10 Mbps for upload.
According to Starlink, using the standard kit antenna while moving is not permitted.
In one separate article we describe the use of alternative electronics to power the antenna with 24V DC instead of 230V AC.
The system will probably be on display at this year's trade fair Adventure four-wheel drive in Bad Kissingen on the status of Bliss Mobil B.V
